Summary
Sumco Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, manufactures and sells silicon wafers for the semiconductor industry primarily in Japan, the United States, China, Taiwan, Korea, and internationally. It provides monocrystalline ingots, as well as polished, annealed, epitaxial, junction isolated, silicon-on-insulator, and reclaimed polished wafers. The company was formerly known as Sumitomo Mitsubishi Silicon Corp. and changed its name to Sumco Corporation in August 2005. Sumco Corporation was incorporated in 1999 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.
History

Founded in 1975, SUMCO has always been at the forefront of the semiconductor device industry, introducing industry-changing technologies and products. We were an early adopter of SiC (Silicon Carbide) technologies, and pioneered the development and production of the world's first commercial SiC diodes in 1997. In the early 2000s, we developed and launched the world's first GaN high electron mobility transistors (GaN-HEMTs), demonstrating excellent device performance and reliability.

SUMCO has received numerous awards, including the Quality Achievement Award by Panasonic in 2003 and the Best Quality Award by Sony in 2005, in recognition of our commitment to quality and excellence. We have also been recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Tokyo-based Daiwa Institute for Research for our contributions to the semiconductor industry.
