Sun Communities, Inc. is a fully integrated real estate investment trust, which together with its affiliates and predecessors, has been in the business of acquiring, operating, developing and expanding manufactured home and RV communities since 1975. 

The nation's premier provider of manufactured home communities and RV resorts. Prime locations throughout the United States and Canada.

History

1975: The predecessor to Sun Communities Inc was established.

1981: Shiffman retired from his medical practice to concentrate fully on his growing company.

1985: The firm was incorporated in order to pursue further growth options.

1986: The company could only own real estate, but the Tax Reform Act of 1986 laid the groundwork for change and enabled them to own, operate, and even finance income-producing real estate.

1993: Sun Communities goes public in the stock market as a REIT.

1994: In January, the company acquired Timberline Estates, a manufactured community with 296 sites located near Grand Rapids, Michigan. Sun has the best-performing stock among manufactured housing REITs.

1995: Sun had acquired two new communities in Florida as well as two in Austin, Texas, which was considered the fastest-growing area in the state in terms of population and job creation.

1998: Revenues continued to grow, reaching $120.6 million.

1999: In September, the company opened its 4th community in Austin, Texas.

2000: While Sun's growth slowed during this year, the company still recorded positive revenues of $134.4 million and a net income of $29.1 million. his year as wee, the company launches its "Residents First" program.

2015: In August, the company sold properties in Ohio and Michigan to UMH Properties for $34.5 million.

2019: In October, the company acquired a portfolio of 31 manufactured housing communities for $343.6 million.
