History

Synup was founded in 2013 by Ashwin Ramesh, who envisioned a solution to the challenges faced by local businesses in managing their online presence. Before Synup, Ramesh ran an online marketing consulting company, where he encountered difficulties in ensuring accurate location data across various digital platforms. Recognising a gap in the market, he developed Synup to provide a comprehensive platform for managing location data, reputation, and analytics.

Incorporated in February 2014, Synup launched its services in June of the same year. The company’s platform, built on Ruby on Rails and Postgres, offers three primary services: location data management, reputation management, and location analytics. Synup enables businesses to maintain accurate and up-to-date information across numerous online directories, including Google, Yelp, Bing, and Apple. This capability ensures that businesses can efficiently manage their online profiles and engage with customer reviews.

Synup’s business model involves a subscription-based fee structure, charging businesses based on the number of physical locations they operate. This approach has made the platform attractive to various local businesses, from restaurants and salons to service providers like plumbers. Although initially focused on the United States and Canada, Synup plans to expand its geographical reach.

The company experienced rapid growth, serving over 50,000 businesses and reaching an annual recurring revenue (ARR) of over $1 million within nine months of launching its product.
