Tecumseh Products Company was founded in 1934 by Lester A. Wisner and Gilbert B. Simmons. Wisner developed a lightweight two-stroke engine and introduced the industry's first cast iron engine block in 1949. In 1954, Tecumseh Products Company opened its first manufacturing facility in Tecumseh, Michigan, where it continues to produce engines and components for use in lawn and garden, construction, agricultural, and industrial equipment.
