The company is the world's second largest processor and marketer of chicken, beef, and pork after JBS S.A., and the largest American meat producer. Tyson Foods produces a wide variety of protein-based and prepared food products and is the recognized market leader in the retail and foodservice markets it serves.

History

Tyson Foods was founded by John W. Tyson in 1935, when he began raising chickens in his backyard in Springdale, Arkansas. The company grew steadily over the years, however, it wasn't until the late 1980s when the company became a public corporation that the company started to see rapid growth. In 2002, Tyson Foods acquired its biggest competitor, IBP Inc., which made it the largest meat producer in the world. The company has since continued to grow and expand in the food industry.
