Varun Mayya was born on 22 February 1993. He pursued Computer Science Engineering at the Manipal Institute of Technology from 2011 to 2015. During his final year, he studied neural networks as an elective, which later influenced his work in artificial intelligence.
In 2014, while still a student, Varun founded Jobspire, a recruitment platform designed to help companies hire talent efficiently. The startup raised INR 1.7 crore in venture capital and worked with over 1,500 companies, including Uber and Swiggy. In 2017, Jobspire was acquired by TurnToTech, a New York-based coding bootcamp, where he worked as a Product Manager for ten months.
After the acquisition, he returned to India and founded Avalon Labs in 2017. The company provided software development services and experimented with various digital products. The team applied a structured approach of hypothesis testing, experimentation, and iteration. While many projects did not succeed, they gained insights into the tech industry.
In 2020, Avalon Labs transitioned into Scenes by Avalon (previously Avalon Meta), a community platform aimed at social media and EdTech businesses. In May 2023, he founded Hacker Era, where he focused on Generative AI applications. He built and launched multiple AI-driven projects, including Autocodepro.com, an AI tool that converts prompts into code, AlphaCTR.com, a YouTube thumbnail generator based on a fine-tuned Stable Diffusion model, Godinabox.co, a GPT-powered chatbot integrated into WhatsApp, and Overpoweredcardgame.com, a digital card game project. These projects collectively gained over a million users.
