Summary

Willy Woo is a New Zealand-based entrepreneur, investor, and data analyst who is primarily known for his expertise in the field of cryptocurrency markets. With over 15 years of experience founding multiple startups, Woo has also worked as an angel investor and trader during the 2008 global financial crisis.

In recent years, Woo has focused much of his attention on the analysis of cryptocurrency markets using data-driven methods. He is known for his contributions to the field of crypto-analytics, which involves using statistical methods to better understand market trends and make more informed investment decisions.

As a self-described nomad and follower of the bitcoin space and mindfulness, Woo has also written for major publications such as Forbes and CoinDesk, as well as running his own website, woobull.com. His work has been praised for its rigour and insight, helping to establish him as a leading figure in the world of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

Biography

Willy Woo is a popular crypto analyst, known for his expertise in on-chain metrics, market analysis, price predictions, and insights about the Bitcoin network.

Woo is a regular contributor to CoinDesk and Forbes, and his work is closely watched by both individual investors and the media. He is also an advisor to capital venture firms and hedge funds on their crypto investments and was a seed-level equity investor in several crypto companies.

Woo was born in Hong Kong and moved to Napier, New Zealand, where he developed an interest in technology at a young age. After university, he became a contract programmer and developed an email application for the first generation of smartphones.

Woo went on to become a stock trader and invested in gold and bought derivatives before the 2008 financial crisis.

In late 2013, he became interested in Bitcoin, bought one bitcoin for fun when the price was $750 per coin, and began attending Bitcoin meetups. He developed the NVT ratio, which is now a widely used metric in the crypto industry, and uses a wide variety of measurements, statistics, tools, and research in his market analysis. His commentary gained popularity during the 2017 crypto bull run, and he accurately predicted a boom in the cryptocurrency market for 2021.

In August 2021, he introduced the Supply Shock metric, which supports the notion that intent to buy or sell can be quantified and used to predict a market's future price movements.

Woo remained bullish on Bitcoin at the end of 2021 into early 2022, even as the price declined by almost 50% from its high of $69,000, and predicted that Bitcoin's price will average $100,000 in the long-term. In the fall of 2022, he predicted that Bitcoin will have 1 billion users by 2025

Vision

Willy Woo's vision for the cryptocurrency industry is centered around the idea of a decentralized and open financial system that is accessible to anyone, anywhere in the world. He believes that blockchain technology, and Bitcoin specifically, have the potential to create a more fair and equitable financial system that is not controlled by any centralized authority.

Woo's vision includes a world where individuals have control over their own money and can participate in a global economy without the need for intermediaries such as banks or financial institutions. He sees Bitcoin as a digital store of value that can act as a hedge against inflation and a safe haven asset during times of economic uncertainty.

In addition to Bitcoin, Woo is also interested in other cryptocurrencies and blockchain applications that can provide additional value to the financial system. He believes that decentralized finance (DeFi) has the potential to create new financial services and products that are more efficient and accessible than traditional financial services.
