Dinis Guarda Interviews Eric Vezzoli, Director of Technology at Razer, Discusses AI, Gaming Economy and the Future of Immersive Technologies
15 Oct 2026

In the latest episode of the Dinis Guarda YouTube Podcast, Eric Vezzoli, Director of Technology at Razer, discusses artificial intelligence in gaming, Razer WYVRN, the Indie Lab initiative, haptic technologies and the future of human-machine interaction.
The episode opens with the discussion about Eric's journey from academic research and entrepreneurship, and extends to Razer's expanding developer ecosystem, AI-powered game development and the growing importance of human creativity in an increasingly automated industry.
Eric Vezzoli began his professional journey studying physics, mathematical modelling and neuroscience, with a particular interest in how humans experience the physical world through touch.
His research eventually led him to entrepreneurship and the development of Interhaptics, a platform acquired by Razer in 2022.
Explaining the technology that shaped his career, Vezzoli says:
Haptics is the ability of technology to touch us back. So it's the ability of the technology to communicate to humans through the sense of touch. A simple example: the vibration of your phone is haptics. It's a way that this device is alerting you that you have a call when you're keeping it in your pocket and you don't want it to disturb you through sound.
Reflecting on his decision to join Razer, he explains:
We arrived at the moment where we had the technology and we needed the distribution. And there's two ways you can make distribution. You can raise a lot of money to build the distribution pathway on your side, or you can leverage an existing distribution that is on the market.
He adds:
We had several offers, but I decided to go with Razer because I knew that the CEO understood what our mission was, which is a deeply creative and empowering mission, and they wanted to enable us.
Razer WYVRN, Indie Lab and AI-Powered Game Development
During the interview, Dinis Guarda and Eric Vezzoli discuss Razer's evolution beyond gaming hardware, including the development of Razer WYVRN, a platform combining haptics, Chroma RGB, audio and on-device AI.
The conversation also explores how artificial intelligence could change traditional game development processes.
Speaking about the relationship between AI and existing software tools, Vezzoli says:
I do believe the future in this mind for AI for gaming, but also maybe other technology fields, is that the legacy systems that have value because they're able to accomplish some tasks exceptionally well should be transformed, and are being transformed, to be able to be used by AI agents to accomplish what they're good to accomplish.
Another key focus is Razer Indie Lab, which aims to make advanced technologies more accessible to independent game developers.
Vezzoli explains:
We designed a platform and a community to be able to have very fast, very direct exchange with the community and offer them everything we do in a prepackaged way that they can just take it and use it and start to experiment and use it in their games.
The discussion also addresses AI-powered quality assurance and the changing economics of game development.
On the role of human creativity, Vezzoli says:
I do not see, honestly with you, the future dramatic reduction of the human touch over creating games because simply the expectation will be much higher, and you still really need the human judgment about what's good or bad and what will be useful at the moment.
Physical AI and the Future of Human-Machine Interaction
Looking beyond gaming, Dinis Guarda and Eric Vezzoli explore how artificial intelligence, robotics, haptics and immersive technologies could change the way people interact with machines.
Vezzoli discusses how gaming already demonstrates the emotional connections humans can develop with digital characters and virtual environments.
He explains:
All the technology interaction we had till today mostly was mediated by the sense of vision and sense of hearing. The intelligent being was never there with you. It was never in your personal space. It was never able to interact with you in a way that you touch it and it touches back.
He further considers how physical interaction could transform people's relationships with intelligent machines:
Imagine a world where you have a humanoid robot in your house doing your chores. You can talk with him. You can interact with him. It's not far away to say that you can shake his hand or hug him.
The conversation also examines the potential impact of gamification on learning, emotional engagement and addictive behaviour.
Vezzoli observes:
Gamification is a tool. The question is how it is used. It's just a well-known tool. What I didn't see yet is when you hook up a gamification toolbox with an open-ended intelligent software and you give an objective.
Towards the end of the discussion, Dinis Guarda asks Vezzoli what advice he would give to younger generations navigating technological change and entrepreneurship.
His concluding advice is:
Always be curious and never, specifically today, never take what something or someone tells you at face value, and check the sources later.
