Biography
Born and raised in Pune, Maharashtra, India, Akshay pursued his higher education at The Pennsylvania State University, where he earned both his Master of Science (2006) and Doctor of Philosophy (2009) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. His research during this period was primarily focused on antenna design, wireless communication, and radar meteor observations, laying the groundwork for his future contributions to these fields.
Akshay has also pursued financial qualifications, completing the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme. He successfully cleared all three levels of the CFA exams, achieving scores in the top percentile.
Akshay's academic career began in the United States, where he served as an Assistant Professor at The Pennsylvania State University. Upon returning to India, he took on various roles in the higher education sector, making significant contributions to both teaching and administration.
Akshay held the position of Professor at Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune, before joining Symbiosis Institute of Technology (SIT), Pune, as an Associate Professor. During his tenure at Symbiosis, he advanced to the roles of Deputy Director and Professor, and later, Officiating Director. In these roles, Akshay was responsible for leading key initiatives, including academic strategy, institute branding, admission strategies, internationalisation, and NAAC accreditation.
In 2019, Akshay became Professor and Director at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun. There, he focused on academic strategy, product management, and the development of new programmes. His work in academic leadership continued when he was appointed Director at SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Shirpur, in 2021. He served in this capacity for two and a half years before moving on to his current role as Professor and Dean of Academics at MIT World Peace University, Pune.
