Akshay Malhotra

Akshay Malhotra is an academic leader with a decade of experience in educational administration and leadership. He holds a PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University, where he also completed his Master of Science in the same field. He is also a CFA certified professional. 

Currently, Akshay serves as Professor and Dean of Academics at MIT World Peace University, Pune. Prior to this, he held the position of Director at SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) in Shirpur, Maharashtra, where he served for two and a half years. His leadership roles also include positions as Professor and Director at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun, and as Deputy Director and Professor at Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Pune, where he contributed significantly to academic strategy, branding, internationalisation, and accreditation efforts.

Akshay's has contributed multiple publications in reputed journals. His research primarily focuses on wireless sensor networks, traffic management, and antenna design. Some of his notable works include studies on congestion-aware routing protocols, dual-band monopole antennas, and the analysis of meteor fragmentation using radar observations.

Born and raised in Pune, Maharashtra, India, Akshay pursued his higher education at The Pennsylvania State University, where he earned both his Master of Science (2006) and Doctor of Philosophy (2009) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. His research during this period was primarily focused on antenna design, wireless communication, and radar meteor observations, laying the groundwork for his future contributions to these fields.

Akshay has also pursued financial qualifications, completing the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme. He successfully cleared all three levels of the CFA exams, achieving scores in the top percentile.

Akshay's academic career began in the United States, where he served as an Assistant Professor at The Pennsylvania State University. Upon returning to India, he took on various roles in the higher education sector, making significant contributions to both teaching and administration.

Akshay held the position of Professor at Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune, before joining Symbiosis Institute of Technology (SIT), Pune, as an Associate Professor. During his tenure at Symbiosis, he advanced to the roles of Deputy Director and Professor, and later, Officiating Director. In these roles, Akshay was responsible for leading key initiatives, including academic strategy, institute branding, admission strategies, internationalisation, and NAAC accreditation.

In 2019, Akshay became Professor and Director at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun. There, he focused on academic strategy, product management, and the development of new programmes. His work in academic leadership continued when he was appointed Director at SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Shirpur, in 2021. He served in this capacity for two and a half years before moving on to his current role as Professor and Dean of Academics at MIT World Peace University, Pune.

Akshay has contributed extensively to research, particularly in the areas of wireless sensor networks, antenna design, and traffic management systems. His work has been published in various peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Humanized Computing, Computers & Electrical Engineering, and Progress in Electromagnetics Research. His research on congestion-aware routing protocols and dual-band antennas for wireless communication applications has gained recognition within the academic community.

Akshay has also explored topics in radar meteorology, with studies on meteoroid fragmentation and long-duration meteor trails published in journals such as Geophysical Research Letters and the Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics.

As Professor and Dean of Academics at MIT World Peace University, Akshay continues to shape the future of higher education in India. His work focuses on enhancing academic programmes, fostering innovation, and ensuring that education remains relevant in a rapidly changing world. 

Throughout his career, Akshay has been an advocate for rethinking the formal education system.
