Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, established on Maharashtra Day on May 1st, 1983, caters primarily to the educational needs of rural communities in western Vidarbha, Maharashtra. Spread across 470.63 acres, it serves over 4 lakh students in five districts, including Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Buldhana, and Washim. The university, with 28 Teaching Departments and a Model Degree College, prioritises providing quality education to uplift disadvantaged groups, aiming to equip youth with skills for the 21st century. It emphasises a student-centric approach, fostering holistic development and offering various platforms for growth.

Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University is affiliated with various funding agencies such as UGC, DST, DBT, AICTE, DRDO, DAE, and RGSTC, among others, which provide substantial grants to support its educational endeavours. The University has been re-accredited by NAAC for the 2nd cycle in the year 2010 with a "B" grade (CGPA of 2.63), for the 3rd Cycle in 2016 with an "A" grade (CGPA of 3.07) and the 4th Cycle in 2022 with "B++" grade (CGPA 2.96). 

Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University was established on 1 May 1983, following the bifurcation of Nagpur University, to cater specifically to the educational needs of the rural population in the western Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. Named in honour of the revered social reformer Sant Gadge Baba, the university's inception marked a significant step towards providing higher education to the underserved districts of Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Buldhana, and Washim.

Initially, the university faced challenges as a developing institution, including limited infrastructure and resources. However, over the years, it has transformed significantly, expanding its facilities and academic offerings. The university campus, which spans over 225 hectares, now hosts 20 postgraduate departments offering 25 diverse courses across multiple disciplines. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has recognised the university's efforts, accrediting it with a "B" grade in 2010, an "A" grade in 2016, and a "B++" grade in 2022. Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across its 28 departments, designed to meet the diverse academic and professional aspirations of students. The university's departments include Applied Electronics, Biotechnology, Botany, Business Administration and Management, Chemical Technology, Chemistry, Commerce, Computer Science, Education, Dr. Ambedkar Thought, Economics, English, Geology, Hindi, History, Home Science, Law, Library Information Science, Marathi, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, Physical Education, Political Science, Statistics, Sociology, Zoology, and Lifelong Learning & Extension Service.

In the Asian region, the university stands at 1101st out of 5,830 institutions, solidifying its presence and impact across the continent. Domestically, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University shines particularly bright, being ranked 116th out of 876 universities in India, and 12th out of 53 in the state of Maharashtra.

Based on the data from the Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University NIRF report for 2023, the median package offered during undergraduate (UG) 4-year placements in 2022 was INR 2.11 LPA (Lakhs Per Annum).

Additionally, out of 44 students who participated in UG 4-year placements, a total of 18 students were successfully placed.

For postgraduate (PG) 2-year placements in the same year, the median package stood at INR 2.40 LPA. Unfortunately, the report did not specify the total number of students participating or placed in PG 2-year placements.
