Chitkara University is accredited with an A+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and its programmes are approved by statutory bodies such as UGC, COA, PCI, NCTE, INC, BCI, and NCHMCT. It holds memberships and recognitions from organisations like AIU, IET (UK), UNAI, AUAP, ASSOCHAM, and CII.
The university has also been recognised as a Business Incubator and Innovation Centre by the Ministry of MSME and the Department of Science and Technology. It ranks 90th among Indian universities in the NIRF 2024 rankings and is placed in the 1201–1400 band globally and 501–550 band in Asia by QS World University Rankings 2025.
History
Chitkara University, Punjab, was established by the Chitkara Educational Trust and is located in Jansla Village, Rajpura, along the Chandigarh–Patiala National Highway (NH-64), approximately 33 kilometres from Chandigarh. The institution began its journey in 2002 with the establishment of the Chitkara Institute of Engineering and Technology (CIET), initially affiliated to Punjab Technical University. Over the years, the Trust expanded its educational footprint by adding new disciplines and institutions.
The turning point came in 2010, when Chitkara University was granted full university status through “The Chitkara University Act,” passed by the Punjab State Legislature in 2008 and enacted in 2009. This transition allowed the university to function as an independent degree-awarding body, recognised under Sections 2(f) and 22(1) of the UGC Act, 1956. Since then, the university has grown into a multi-disciplinary institution offering a wide range of programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels.
The 70-acre main campus provides facilities for education in engineering, management, pharmacy, health sciences, nursing, hospitality, design, architecture, law, education, and media. The university houses various schools, such as Chitkara Business School, Chitkara College of Pharmacy, Chitkara School of Health Sciences, and Chitkara Design School, among others. These schools are supported by modern infrastructure, including ICT-equipped classrooms, well-furnished laboratories, and spaces for co-curricular and extra-curricular engagement.
Chitkara University is recognised by several national statutory bodies. It holds UGC approval and has been accredited with an A+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), scoring a CGPA of 3.26. Its academic programmes have approval from bodies including the Council of Architecture (COA), Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Indian Nursing Council (INC), and Bar Council of India (BCI). Hotel management programmes are affiliated with the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT).
The university is also actively involved in national and international collaborations. It is recognised as a Business Incubator by the Ministry of MSME and has innovation and incubation centres acknowledged by the Ministry of Education and the Department of Science and Technology. In terms of rankings, Chitkara University has been placed in the 90th position among Indian universities by the NIRF 2024. It also ranks 19th in pharmacy, 35th in architecture, 58th in management, 94th in engineering, and 54th in medical categories. Internationally, QS World University Rankings placed it in the 501–550 band in Asia and 1201–1400 band globally for the year 2025. Within South Asia, it was ranked 143rd.

The business faculty offers the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) programme. The pharmacy department offers the Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.), and the design school offers the Bachelor of Design (B.Des.). Students interested in commerce can enrol in the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.), while those aiming to enter the healthcare sector can take up the Bachelor of Nursing (B.Sc. The university also featured in the 11–50 band in the NIRF innovation rankings and was placed in the 101–150 band overall.
Internationally, Chitkara University is listed in the QS World University Rankings 2025 in the 1201–1400 global band. It was also placed in the 501–550 band in the QS Asia University Rankings 2025.
In addition to QS rankings, the university has also been recognised by the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025. It was placed in the 601–800 global band overall. In subject-specific categories, THE ranked Chitkara University in the 501–600 band for both business and economics, and medical and health sciences. For computer science and engineering, it was placed in the 601–800 and 501–600 bands respectively.
Job integration rate
Chitkara University, Punjab, has reported successful placement outcomes for its Engineering and Management graduates from the 2023 batch. The university concluded its placement drive with participation from over 670 recruiting companies, representing a wide range of industry sectors such as Information Technology, Assurance, Education, Operations, Sales, and Marketing.
For BTech graduates, the highest salary package offered during the 2023 placement season was INR 1.11 crore per annum. In the case of MBA graduates, the placement report for 2023 indicated a highest package of INR 44 lakhs per annum, while the average package stood at INR 9 lakhs per annum.
