Established in 2005 under the Lovely Professional University Act, the institution started its operations in 2006. Lovely Professional University (LPU) was established in 2005 by the Lovely International Trust, a part of the Lovely Group, in Phagwara, Punjab, India. The university was founded under the Lovely Professional University Act, 2005 (Punjab Act 25 of 2005) and began its operations in 2006.
