Biography

Dr. R. M. Chitnis is an academic leader with over three decades of experience in higher education. Dr. Chitnis' academic journey began with a focus on finance and banking. He holds a PhD in Banking and Finance from Savitribai Phule Pune University, where he also earned an MPhil in Finance and Financial Management Services and an MCom. Furthering his expertise in management, he completed an MDBA in Finance and Financial Management Services from the Institute of Management Development and Research (IMDR), Pune.

In his early career, Dr. Chitnis held the position of Principal at MIT School of Management from January 2011 to June 2017, where he was instrumental in shaping the institution’s academic direction. His involvement in academia extends to his role as a recognised PhD research guide at VU University, Amsterdam, as well as at Savitribai Phule Pune University and Symbiosis International University, guiding numerous doctoral candidates.

Currently serving as Vice Chancellor at MIT World Peace University (MIT WPU) since September 2021, Dr. Chitnis has played a crucial role in steering the institution towards academic excellence and global engagement. 

Prior to this, he was Pro Vice-Chancellor at MIT WPU from June 2019 to September 2021 and has held various other leadership positions within the institution, including Pro Vost, Chairman of the Management Undergraduate Programmes, and Director of International Collaboration.

Dr. R. M. Chitnis has an extensive body of work in academic publications, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in finance, education, and management. Among his notable works is the publication titled "Business Simulation as an Innovative Teaching Learning Method: A Case Study of Undergraduate Students of MITSOM College," which appeared in the Compendium of National Teachers' Congress in January 2018. 

In addition, Dr. Chitnis co-authored the publication "Higher Education in India: Need for Change," featured in MAEER's Business Explorer in July 2012, his work on "India's Credit Policy: Strategic Advantage," published in January 2012.

Dr. Chitnis has also contributed to the study of various industries through his research monographs. These include his studies on the automobile and cement industries, published at the National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM), and a detailed analysis of India's banking sector. His publication titled "Computer Simulation Model of Bank Branch: An Aid to Branch Level Financial Planning," also produced at NIBM, reflects his in-depth analysis of banking operations and financial planning.

Further contributions include his research on "Emerging Challenges of Banks in India," "Emerging Trends in Changing Market Share of Banks in India," and "Financial Strategies of Corporate Sector: A Revisit of Prof. Pearson Hunt's Funds Flow Model," which was associated with Stanford University, USA. Additionally, his work on savings and deposits in India, titled "Savings & Deposits: Trends and Patterns," is based on an extensive survey of Indian households and institutions.

Dr. Chitnis's contributions to education have been recognised through his roles as chairman of the NAAC Peer Team for accreditation and academic peer reviewer for the QS International University Rating System.
