R. M. Chitnis

Dr. R. M. Chitnis currently serves as Vice Chancellor at MIT World Peace University (MIT WPU), having held this position since September 2021. With over three decades of experience in education, Dr. Chitnis has made significant contributions to various academic institutions, particularly in leadership roles at MIT WPU and Savitribai Phule Pune University (formerly University of Pune). He previously served as Pro Vice Chancellor of MIT WPU and held positions such as Pro Vost, Chairman of Management UG Programmes, and Director of International Collaboration.

Dr. Chitnis holds a PhD in Banking and Finance from Savitribai Phule Pune University, alongside an MCom and an MDBA from the Institute of Management Development and Research, Pune. He has also obtained an MPhil in Finance and Financial Management Services. Recognised as a PhD research guide by multiple universities, including VU University in Amsterdam, Savitribai Phule Pune University, and Symbiosis International University, Dr. Chitnis has guided numerous doctoral students.

He has contributed to the development of internationalisation at MIT WPU, establishing partnerships with global institutions and leading initiatives such as International Summer Schools and Business Simulation Programmes. Dr. Chitnis has authored over 11 national and international research publications and written 11 books. He has also been involved in several national and international research projects.

The other leadership roles that Dr. Chitnis has held include being the Chairman of the NAAC Peer Team for accreditation and Academic Peer Reviewer on the QS International University Rating System, and being part of the UGC Committee for the STRIDE programme. 

Recognised for his contributions to education, he has received awards including the Best Teacher Award by the Higher Education Forum of India and the Ideal Citizen Award from Pune Municipal Corporation.

Dr. R. M. Chitnis is an academic leader with over three decades of experience in higher education. Dr. Chitnis' academic journey began with a focus on finance and banking. He holds a PhD in Banking and Finance from Savitribai Phule Pune University, where he also earned an MPhil in Finance and Financial Management Services and an MCom. Furthering his expertise in management, he completed an MDBA in Finance and Financial Management Services from the Institute of Management Development and Research (IMDR), Pune.

In his early career, Dr. Chitnis held the position of Principal at MIT School of Management from January 2011 to June 2017, where he was instrumental in shaping the institution’s academic direction. His involvement in academia extends to his role as a recognised PhD research guide at VU University, Amsterdam, as well as at Savitribai Phule Pune University and Symbiosis International University, guiding numerous doctoral candidates.

Currently serving as Vice Chancellor at MIT World Peace University (MIT WPU) since September 2021, Dr. Chitnis has played a crucial role in steering the institution towards academic excellence and global engagement. 

Prior to this, he was Pro Vice-Chancellor at MIT WPU from June 2019 to September 2021 and has held various other leadership positions within the institution, including Pro Vost, Chairman of the Management Undergraduate Programmes, and Director of International Collaboration.

Dr. Chitnis has significantly contributed to the internationalisation of MIT WPU, establishing partnerships with global universities for joint research, faculty, and student exchange programmes. He has also spearheaded initiatives such as International Summer Schools, Business Simulation Programmes for management students, and short-term certificate courses.

An active researcher, Dr. Chitnis has authored over 11 national and international publications and written 11 books on topics related to finance, banking, and education, and has been cited 36 times. He has led several national and international research projects, furthering the understanding of the financial sector and its evolving challenges.

Books and Publications

Dr. R. M. Chitnis has an extensive body of work in academic publications, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in finance, education, and management. Among his notable works is the publication titled "Business Simulation as an Innovative Teaching Learning Method: A Case Study of Undergraduate Students of MITSOM College," which appeared in the Compendium of National Teachers' Congress in January 2018. 

In addition, Dr. Chitnis co-authored the publication "Higher Education in India: Need for Change," featured in MAEER's Business Explorer in July 2012, his work on "India's Credit Policy: Strategic Advantage," published in January 2012.

Dr. Chitnis has also contributed to the study of various industries through his research monographs. These include his studies on the automobile and cement industries, published at the National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM), and a detailed analysis of India's banking sector. His publication titled "Computer Simulation Model of Bank Branch: An Aid to Branch Level Financial Planning," also produced at NIBM, reflects his in-depth analysis of banking operations and financial planning.

Further contributions include his research on "Emerging Challenges of Banks in India," "Emerging Trends in Changing Market Share of Banks in India," and "Financial Strategies of Corporate Sector: A Revisit of Prof. Pearson Hunt's Funds Flow Model," which was associated with Stanford University, USA. Additionally, his work on savings and deposits in India, titled "Savings & Deposits: Trends and Patterns," is based on an extensive survey of Indian households and institutions.

Dr. Chitnis's contributions to education have been recognised through his roles as chairman of the NAAC Peer Team for accreditation and academic peer reviewer for the QS International University Rating System. He is also a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Committee for the Scheme for Trans-Disciplinary Research for Academic Institutes and Universities (STRIDE).

Dr. Chitnis has received several awards, including the Best Teacher Award from the Higher Education Forum of India and the Ideal Citizen Award from Pune Municipal Corporation.
