Five hundred years after Leonardo da Vinci’s death, we may finally have invented a technology capable of matching the scale of his curiosity.
Leonardo moved effortlessly between art, anatomy, engineering, mathematics and nature because he never accepted the boundaries between disciplines. Today, AI is doing something strangely similar: connecting enormous fields of knowledge, accelerating experimentation and turning ideas into images, code, simulations and discoveries at unprecedented speed.
But there is a fundamental difference. AI can process more knowledge than Leonardo could ever have encountered in a lifetime. It can generate in seconds what once required months of work. Yet intelligence alone was never what made Leonardo extraordinary. It was his relentless curiosity, observation, imagination and ability to ask questions others had not thought to ask.
This may become the defining paradox of the AI age: as machines become extraordinarily capable of giving us answers, the greatest human advantage may increasingly be our ability to ask better questions.
So if Leonardo da Vinci had access to today’s AI, would AI make him a greater genius or would Leonardo simply teach us how badly we have been using AI?

How Leonardo da Vinci Would Master AI 500 Years After His Death: Decoding The Genius Mysteries
What would Leonardo da Vinci do with artificial intelligence if he were alive today?
More than 500 years after his death, Leonardo’s way of thinking still feels remarkably modern. His notebooks moved constantly between art, anatomy, engineering, mathematics, nature and invention, combining disciplines in ways that closely resemble how today’s most advanced AI systems connect knowledge across different fields.
This Wisdomia feature explores Leonardo’s methods of observation, experimentation and creative problem-solving through the lens of the AI age, asking what his extraordinary curiosity can still teach us about intelligence, innovation and human creativity.
If Leonardo had access to generative AI, advanced simulations and today’s global knowledge networks, what would he build, discover or question first?
