Brandon Chez
Summary
Brandon Chez has managed to keep a low profile while running one of the crypto industry’s central websites, CoinMarketCap. Since 2013, the site has become one of the most visited sites in the cryptocurrency space and a premier source of market data. His influence in the industry was made apparent when he delisted South Korean exchanges from CoinMarketCap without warning in January 2018, triggering a $100 billion drop of the total cryptocurrency market value.
Biography
Brandon Chez is the creator of the world's most popular cryptocurrency website, CoinMarketCap. Since its inception in 2013, the website has grown to become the world's leading cryptocurrency information authority and one of the most visited websites of all time. In 2020, Brandon Chez oversaw the institution of new mechanisms for combatting industry-wide prevalence of inflated reported volumes from exchanges sharing their market data with CoinMarketCap after acquiring Hashtag Capital in late 2019. CoinMarketCap is also acquired by Binance in 2020.
While Brandon prefers to remain out of the spotlight, he notoriously disrupted markets at the height of the first bull run in January of 2018 by excluding from price calculations markets from a collection of Korean exchanges which users had previously complained to CoinMarketCap were skewing headline prices higher than what seemed to be the average everywhere else outside of Korea. The choice being his alone, and his doing so without notifying anyone prior the exclusion led to a frenzied outcry from the public & precipitous drops in global crypto market cap followed shortly afterwards.
Vision
Brandon's vision was to address this gap by consolidating data from various exchanges, providing real-time and accurate market data for thousands of cryptocurrencies. By promoting data transparency and accuracy, he aimed to build trust among users and create a reliable source for cryptocurrency information.
Brandon understood the significance of accessibility and user-friendliness in a rapidly evolving market. CoinMarketCap's user-friendly interface and simple navigation allowed both experienced traders and newcomers to easily track cryptocurrency prices, market capitalization, trading volumes, and other essential data. Moreover, his vision extended beyond data provision; it included a strong emphasis on market education. In the early days of the cryptocurrency market, many individuals were unfamiliar with digital assets and blockchain technology. Brandon wanted to change that by providing educational resources and insightful content through CoinMarketCap's blog. His goal was to demystify the space and empower users with knowledge to make well-informed decisions.
