We spend enormous amounts of time ranking companies, technologies, markets and even AI models. But we still have surprisingly weak systems for understanding the people making the decisions behind them.
And this matters more than ever.
As AI reshapes industries, capital moves faster, organisations become increasingly global and technology compresses years of transformation into months, the role of the CEO is changing too. Leadership is no longer only about managing an organisation. It is about navigating AI, geopolitics, trust, sustainability, talent, digital identity and increasingly autonomous technologies, often simultaneously.
This week, I want to look at that transformation through two connected lenses: the 200 women CEOs helping shape the business landscape of 2027, and WorldTop.CEO, our work at Businessabc to build a verified global platform for identifying, ranking and understanding the next generation of influential CEOs.
But rankings themselves are not the destination. The bigger question is what we choose to measure. Revenue? Valuation? Innovation? Global influence? Social impact? The ability to build organisations that remain human while becoming increasingly powered by machines?
In an age when algorithms can measure almost everything, perhaps the hardest thing to measure will be leadership itself.
So who will define the next generation of global leadership and are we even using the right metrics to recognise them?
